Adult Introduction to Rowing

Spring 2004 Session

This Introductory Session will teach the basics of the sport of rowing for adults. This 15-session program includes training on the erg (rowing) machines and on-the-water sessions. It will include safety training, boat handling lessons, coxswain commands, and, of course, rowing. Participants will start on the water in an octuple (8-person boat) and progress to recreational-racing singles by the end of May. After completion of this course, participants should be capable of continuing with coached single lessons.

The program will be directed by Trish Miles, head coach for the club's master's women's program and assistant coach of the Junior women's team. Trish is an accomplished competitive rower who won the 1999 U.S. National Club Championships in the lightweight singles and the prestigious Head of the Charles in Boston.

The fee for the course is $100, payable to the Dayton Boat Club. Those wishing to join the Dayton Boat Club and continue with the sport can do so at a reduced summer rate. Ten seats are available for this program.
